Take A Journey With Us
Thank you for being here! We may take different routes but we’re all on the same journey: Life. Whether it’s a snapshot of daily life at home, in the garden or in the shop, field work, travels or adventures great and small we hope our blog will inspire you to connect to each other and the planet, supporting life wild and free, mindfully. This blog is our little way to stay connected with you, wherever we may roam.
The Badlands
The third day of our journey took us into the Black Hills of South Dakota and The Badlands. Referred to as “The Land of Light and Stone,” we arrived in this ancient space on a Sunday in full reverence for the wild rugged beauty Mother Nature created. Once home to prehistoric creatures including mammoth, rhinoceros, large bison and small horses; millions of years worth of fossils deposits, water and wind erosion have developed into an amazing structure of rock formations and mountains unlike any we’ve ever seen. Do you [...]
The Start Of A Grand Adventure
Days 1-3:
Curds, Cycles & A Little Bit Of Crazy
Why do we roam? It's an evolutionary part of our human DNA to be nomadic, to go where there are lush abundances of life giving resource in order to survive and thrive. Now, in the 21st century, my gypsy soul craves wide open spaces and exploration of the unknown to simply quench my thirst and satisfy a hunger to see, learn and grow. We do this as frequently as possible. It's life for us. Away from towns and technology, reconnecting to life-- to each other and to the great wide [...]
Traveling With Dogs
We are animal lovers. Dogs have been our best friends for many years, accompanying us on adventures great and small. But, our wild young pup and his "big sister"--a seasoned sweetheart, brought new meaning to the term "adventure" on a recent road trip to Vermont, when last minute changes at the kennel left both dogs joining us for the journey. As you know my heart dog was Riggly, a wise old yellow lab that went everywhere with me for 14 years. Rigs died last summer and I’ve felt lost without [...]
In the Garden: The weeds are calling and I must go!
When one adventure ends, another begins. Storms passing through the area put a hold on our recent plans to kayak, but the garden still beckons. Our little Earth gardens are a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. Full of herbs and native species of plants such as the lovely bee balm seen here; a water source and shelter, we love watching the life in, out and all about our little urban oasis. Life abounds here! The majority of things growing in our urban gardens are edible and we do [...]
Our Earthy Family On Adventure
It's just us: Kenny, Holt & Jessica. Occasionally our two dogs Annie & Emmet join in the fun. Our home base is in the historic district of downtown Carlisle, PA. Our earthy outpost is in the mountains of WV. This way, we're fortunate enough to experience the best of both worlds and everything in between. We go 50/50 on planned trips and spontaneous adventure and this day was a little bit of both. We've explored Smoke Hole Caverns, Seneca Rocks and Dolly Sods Wilderness area several times, but never [...]
Road Trip
There's nothing like hitting the open road with unknown adventures awaiting. Sure, you may have charted your course to a set destination, but getting there--and back--is half the fun! Traveling solo vs with a partner vs with your family has ups & downs. There's definitely a freedom to flying solo. You can go where you want, when you want, no delays or holding back, no debates or ensuing arguments. At times when it's just me, myself and I on the road I can change plans, take side trips, pull off [...]
